World Vegetarian Day is celebrated on October 1st and is dedicated to promoting the ideas of rejecting meat consumption, as well as informing about the benefits of plant-based nutrition for health, ecology, and ethics.

History of the Holiday
The holiday was established in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) and received support from the International Vegetarian Union (IVU) in 1978.

Goals of World Vegetarian Day
– Promoting a healthy lifestyle and mindful eating
– Highlighting issues related to industrial animal farming
– Informing about the positive impact of vegetarianism on the environment
– Supporting ethical treatment of animals

How the holiday is celebrated
On this day, there are lectures, seminars, tastings of vegetarian dishes, charity events, and flash mobs. Many restaurants offer special plant-based menus, and people who don't follow a vegetarian diet try to avoid meat for at least one day.

World Vegetarian Day marks the beginning of the so-called "Vegetarian Awareness Month," which ends on November 1st – International Vegan Day.
